Government to review Foreign Policy

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan has said that the government will review its foreign policy that lasted for 20 years due to the economic changes in the world.

President Samia made the statement during her meeting with Ambassadors representing Tanzania abroad, which is being held in Zanzibar, being the first time she met with the 61 ambassadors since she came to power in March, 2021.

"The state of the world economy has changed in a decade, our foreign policy is 20 years old, we are using it right now, our last meeting of ambassadors was in 2019," said President Samia explaining.

"Therefore, many things have changed in the world, so it is right that we look at our 20-year-old policy, does it still have a bearing on the changes in the world right now, but what things have passed us by in four years." She added President Samia.

In addition, President Samia has said that during her tenure, the mission has been to increase the vitality of Tanzanian diplomacy through the new blood of young people in the positions of ambassadors, to expand new ambassadors, to participate in international meetings and strategic visits that open up economic opportunities and organizations.

The meeting has been organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation with the aim of reflecting the new global environment and needs in diplomacy.
